Shot-term Chinese Learning Courses are devoted to rapidly and efficiently enhance the students' Chinese level, especially the abilities of listening and speaking. The courses usual duration is from 1 week to 2 months. In addition, we offer various elective courses of Chinese folk culture, so that students can become acquainted with and get touch with the abundant Chinese culture. These courses will widen the student's knowledge about Chinese language and culture.
1. Requirements
Those who are healthy and willing to abide by Chinese Laws and the University's regulations can ask for applications.
2. Course Contents
(1) Elementary Course: Elementary Chinese (including Chinese characters, grammar), Listening Skills, Dialogue, and Chinese Folk Culture (elective)
(2) Beginners Course: Junior Chinese (including Chinese characters, grammar), Listening & Speaking, Reading , and Chinese Folk Culture Lesson (elective)
(3) Intermediate Course: Intermediate Chinese (including grammar, vocabulary), Listening & Speaking, Reading , Chinese Culture, and Chinese Folk Culture (elective)
(4) Advanced Course: Senior Chinese (including syntax, translation, discussion), Listening Skills, Chinese Culture, Practical Writing, Chinese Folk Culture (elective)

3. The Way and Application Procedures
(1) The Way of Application
Apply directly to School of International Education in Jiangnan University.
(2) Application Materials
Fill out the “Application Form for Foreigners Wishing to Study in Jiangnan University”. Applicants may download the concerned Application Forms directly from the homepage of School of International Education website, or ask for the Application Forms from School of International Education.
(3) Time of Application
Anytime during office hour
(4) Admission and Visa
Applicants who have been admitted to JNU will receive “Notice for Admission” and JW201 or JW202 Form with which they can apply for their visas to Chinese Embassy or Consulate.
(5) Commencement of teaching
A. The first Monday of September for autumn semester, and the last ten-day period of February for spring semester.
B. Class will start at any time as long as there are 5students. (Maximum 20 students in each class)
(6) Registration
Upon registration, students are required to present their passports, Notice of Admission, JW201 or JW202 Form, Physical Checkup Record for Foreigners (valid for 6 months), 6 photos (2 inches, front view, half length, hatless). In addition to these, self-supporting students are also required to pay their tuition, registration and accommodation fees.
4. Tuition Standard
(1) Tuition: ¥3,000/month, and if exceeds 1 month, plus ¥750/week for extra
(2) Registration Fee: ¥ 400/person
(3) Books Fee: according to actual expense
5. Facilities and Fees
(1) Accommodation
Single Room (with toilet, air-conditioner, water-heater, TV, telephone, Internet): ¥25/day
(2) The food fee for each student dining at the dining hall on campus is about ¥ 15-20/day.

Note : All the classes above offer general interest courses in Chinese folk culture in the afternoon: Calligraphy, Drawing, Clay Sculpture, Alto Fiddle, Taiji Shadowboxing, Deep Breathing Exercises, Martial Arts, Cooking etc. Students can choose 1-2 courses, and class will open once there are 10students. In addition, there will be tours to near suburbs on the weekends. There is a separate fee for these courses and tours. |
